Gotta do what you gotta do!

May 17th, 2013 at 02:23 pm

My youngest son (12) had a band concert last night. All boys were supposed to wear black slacks. He got dressed and realized his only pair of black slacks were too short! We had 15 minutes until we had to leave. I let out the hem, ironed it down, and secured the new hem with electrical tape. It actually held up! Haha! He threw a freshly ironed button up dress shit on and a black belt and he was good to go!

Also yesterday I bought a pair of khaki's and two dress shirts for him for $12 at a consignment store and hubby bought a pool stick for $15. He researched it and found out they retail for minimum $185.

I am paying bills today. should be interesting...

Love it when we can make things work in a pinch! There was a boy at our last concert with very short pants, and white socks...they are suppose to have black. It made me sad, since he sat right on the end, too. Wish his parents helped him out a bit, but maybe he didn't care. One never knows.

Good thinking in a rush, Momma. Now let's see...You could have wrapped the black electrical tape around your son's legs at the level where the length of sock was proving in adequate! Or perhaps colored his leg with black marker. Big Grin Anything to not have to pull out the iron!

Good on you for fast fix under stress. A sprites of vinegar or a pressing cloth wrung out in vinegar will remove the evidence of the old hem line. Iron-on tape is a cheap, fast, more permanent fix for hems. Stitch witchery is another iron-on product that can be cut to fit. There are several fabric glues which are more expensive but oh so handy to have in the sewing box.
