Spendy week

January 25th, 2012 at 02:46 pm

A family member is going out of state where the weather is so much different than here. We had to shell out a lot of money for appropriate clothing and such. Time to look at the budget and slow the spending down.

I'm adding $96 to the challenge for coupon savings. Total is now $708.50.

I had a sweet elderly lady behind me at the checkout lane. I was doing my price matching and coupons and she was explaining to her husband what I was doing. They were both impressed how much I saved. She was chatting with me about how she used to do that and how the savings can be huge. I thanked her for being patient and understanding. Nice change from the usual impatient and rude people. Smile

Thank you for the reminder about the value of patience Momma23. I was behind a woman writing a check at the market the other day, and fumed the entire time thinking "Who writes checks these days when debit cards are so efficient and fast!" Hardly a kind reaction, which my DH rightly pointed out to me when I later shared my frustration with him. Alas, I never run out of opportunities for growth and improvement!

I do not mind people writing checks BUT I DO mind them waiting until the bill is totaled then digging about to retrieve the checkbook and then finally starting to write it.

What is SOOO hard about getting organized while waiting to check out?????

A little compassion goes a long way. Where does everyone need to go in such a hurry that one can't wait a few seconds (or minutes)? Things happen and that's just the way it is. Getting all worked up benefits nobody.

I think that it (sometimes) kind of depends on how urgently someone needs to lead themselves through checkout and back to work, or home, or wherever... but of course, there are plenty of jerks out there who don't need any reason to be cranky in line. I have noticed that people in other countries tend to be a lot more patient in lines in general, though. Frankly, I'd rather have the insurance of keeping my blood pressure at normal levels, thanks!
